RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is commonly known as "electronic tag", is a non-contact automatic Identification technology, it through the Radio Frequency signal automatically identify the target object and obtain relevant data, Identification work without manual intervention, the main role is to write and read data.It consists of label, reader and data transmission and processing system.According to whether or not to carry a battery, the electronic tag is divided into active type and passive type.

At present, passive tags account for 80% of the market, while passive tags account for less than 20%. What is the difference and connection between active tags and passive tags?Let's take a look at the following.

A, definitions,
Active rfid, also known as active rfid, is powered entirely by an internal battery. At the same time, part of the battery's energy supply is converted into radio frequency energy needed for electronic tag and reader communication. It usually supports remote identification.

Passive tags, known as passive tags, can convert part of the microwave energy into direct current for their own work after receiving a microwave signal announced by the card reader. When the passive RFID tag is close to the RFID card reader, the antenna of the passive RFID tag will convert the electromagnetic wave energy received into electricity, activate the chip in the RFID tag, and send out the data in the RFID chip. With anti-interference ability, users can customize the reading and writing standard data, in the special application system more efficient, reading distance can reach more than 10 meters.

Working principle
1. The active electronic tag is the battery that provides the energy for the indicator signature. The battery, memory and antenna together constitute the active electronic tag.

2. The performance of passive rfid tags is greatly affected by the label size, modulation form, circuit Q value, device power consumption and modulation depth. The passive radio frequency tag has a memory capacity of 1024bits and an ultra-wide working frequency band, which not only conforms to relevant industry regulations, but also can carry out flexible development and application. It can read and write multiple tags at the same time.Passive rfid tag design, no need for batteries, memory can be repeatedly erased more than 100,000 times.

Price and service life
1, active rfid: high price, and relatively short battery life.

2, passive rfid: the price is cheaper than active rfid, and the battery life is relatively long.

Four, both advantages and disadvantages
1, active RFID tags
Active RFID tags are powered by built-in batteries, and different tags use different Numbers and shapes of batteries.

Advantages: long distance, the distance between active RFID tags and RFID readers can reach tens of meters, or even hundreds of meters.

Disadvantages: large size, high cost, limited battery life.

2. Passive RFID tags
The passive RFID tag does not contain a battery, and its power is obtained from the RFID reader. When the passive RFID tag is close to the RFID reader, the antenna of the passive RFID tag will convert the electromagnetic wave energy received into electrical energy, activate the chip in the RFID tag, and send out the data in the RFID chip.

Advantages: small size, light weight, low cost, long life, can be made into different shapes such as thin plates or hooks, used in different environments.

Disadvantages: because there is no internal power supply, the distance between passive RFID tags and RFID readers is limited, usually within a few meters, generally requires a large power RFID reader.
