PCB Board Color: A Key Visual and Functional Aspect in Manufacturing

The color of a PCB board, typically referring to the ink applied on the board, is its most immediate visual characteristic.  Common colors include green, blue, red, and black.  These colors serve more than aesthetic purposes;  they have specific roles in manufacturing and practical applications.

Green inks, known for their long history, are the most commonly used and are economically priced in the market.  Consequently, many manufacturers opt for green as their primary product color.

During the PCB manufacturing process, certain steps must be conducted in a special light room, where green proves more effective than other colors.  Additionally, in the SMT soldering process, the green background of the equipment aids in instrument identification, facilitating optical positioning and calibration.

Currently, the primary colors for PCBs are red, yellow, green, blue, and black.  However, due to certain production processes and challenges, many line inspections still depend on manual visual observation and identification.  In these instances, the green color is relatively less straining on the eyes, making it the preferred choice for most manufacturers.

Blue and black PCB boards, infused with elements like cobalt and carbon, respectively, exhibit conductive properties.  This can lead to short-circuiting issues when powered.  Conversely, green PCB boards are more eco-friendly, typically not releasing harmful gases in high-temperature environments.

Some manufacturers use black PCB boards, mainly for their high-end appearance, and because the wiring on them is less visible, making replication more difficult.  Many of today's Android embedded boards use black PCBs.

Since the mid to late 20th century, there has been growing industry focus on PCB board color, especially as many top-tier manufacturers have adopted green PCB designs.  This has led to the perception that green PCBs are synonymous with high quality.  However, it's important to remember that color is just one aspect of a PCB board;  its performance and quality depend on the manufacturing process and material choices.
